There is some tremendous breaking news this week. Ron Gammons, who may be known to many of you as an MG 18/80 owner is also a DH Moth man. He’s organizing a grand vintage air tour of the south of England on the same day as Pre-War Prescott, and it looks like the flotilla of OVER FORTY AIRCRAFT – Moths and others – will be joining us over Prescott, which should make a unique and extraordinary sight. I just have to ensure that the Lancaster doesn’t get mixed up with them! The entry list currently stands at around 40 cars, so with two other Moths already scheduled to join us on the day, we now have the slightly peculiar situation that we have more aircraft booked for the day than cars. But I suspect that advantage won’t hold for long …
This week we are circulating invitations to dozens of one-make clubs and registers to join us at Pre-War Prescott. Pre-War Prescott offers an ‘umbrella’ for other clubs and registers to gather and enjoy the day without the financial commitment and organizational overhead that would result from a single club trying to book Prescott. The hill alone costs £6,000 for the day, and total costs come to about double that. So The Vintage Minor Register mounts the event and invites other clubs and registers to gather, providing them with their own parking area, areas for their specialist trade and autojumble stands, and so on – just as if it were their own event, but all their members have to do is enter and turn up – we do the rest. Thus we keep red tape to an absolute minimum, which is the key to Pre-War Prescott’s outstanding success. If your club, register or group would like to join us, no matter how small, do get in touch and we will make the necessary arrangements.
Today a couple of useful updates were made to the website. First, there is now a running entry list which will be updated as new entries come in. We hope this will prove both useful and interesting. Second, a FAQ page has been added which will hopefully answer any questions you may have. We will add questions and answers to this page as we answer any new questions that come our way!
We are delighted to announce that the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Avro Lancaster, PA 474 will grace the skies over Pre-War Prescott 2016. PA 474 closed the inaugural Pre-War Prescott in dramatic style back in 2011 and will be visiting us again this year. This iconic aircraft missed most of last year’s display season after it suffered an engine fire in the air. Repairs have now been completed and we cannot wait to see – and hear – her over Prescott once again on Saturday 16th July.
