Pre-War Prescott is a month today!

June 18, 2015

Tangmere, Sussex, July 1944.  In front of a Spitfire IX of 332 (Norwegian) Squadron, a standard 45-gallon jettison tank is filled with PA ale for flying over to Normandy while an RAF ‘erk’ writes a cheery message on the tank.
18th June 2015  Pre-War Prescott is a month today!   And with the number of people already booked in for the evening Battle of Britain Victory Party, we’ve ordered additional beer supplies to be flown in!  The initial batch of Pre-War Prescott tickets will be posted in bulk to the UK at the end of next week for onward posting locally, so if you have already entered for any of the weekend’s events, expect your tickets to arrive by the end of the month.  For entries arriving from this point, a second mailing will be scheduled, and for very late entries, these will be processed in the UK.  However, if you won’t know until the day if you can make it or not, then you will be able to pay at the gate, BUT you won’t receive your free climb, and you also run the risk that all climbs will be sold out, so better to book in advance if you can.

The Heavies Are Coming

June 13, 2015

13th June 2015  The heavies are coming!  We are delighted to announce that Ashdown Camp will be bringing a convoy of World War Two military vehicles to add to the wartime atmosphere of Pre-War Prescott this year, including five rare and unusual ‘heavies’.  I can’t wait to see this one on the start line!  Ashdown Camp is a large and very interesting replica World War Two military camp near Evesham.  There are more military displays being organized for the day and we are inviting (but NOT requiring) entrants and spectators to come along in military uniforms, mufti, pre-war racing or mechanics overalls, or any twenties/thirties outfits to add to the atmosphere of the day – and particularly the Battle of Britain Victory Party in the evening.  (Our three year old granddaughter Sophia is flying from Seattle with us this year and already has her evacuee outfit, complete with name tag and gas mask box!)  The Clubhouse will be decked out on Friday in readiness for the Saturday evening and right now, we are ordering bunting and other decorations and displays to set the atmosphere for the evening and the Hawker Hurricane display.

The Shutters at Gotherington

June 10, 2015

10th June 2015  A reminder that we will be holding our traditional Friday evening reception at The Shutters in Gotherington the night before Pre-War Prescott.  We’re expecting a big turnout this year, so the landlord has been forewarned – as we wouldn’t want to run out of ale!   The Shutters is a couple of miles along the lane from Prescott, so is popular with those camping in the Prescott Orchard on Friday night.  So if your plans call for you to arrive in the area on Friday, do pop in at any time during the evening to get the weekend rolling.  At the other end of the weekend, we will be holding our Farewell on Sunday evening at The Pheasant at Toddington, who have been similarly forewarned!

A Magical Location

VMR Summer Rally 2013 – the rallyists watch as the 300 foot gravity fountain is launched
18th April 2015  Yesterday morning I called Stanway House and spoke to Lord Wemyss who generously offered to open up his estate to us again this year for the conclusion of the Sunday rally and tour.  Stanway is normally only open to the public two days in the week. There will be cream teas, results, awards and a private viewing of the spectacular 300 foot gravity fountain for us.  And we will be able to park our cars in front of the house for photos. There could not be a more magical location to conclude the weekend!

Where They Served

April 14, 2015

8003402_orig

14th April 2015  More tremendous news!  Elizabeth Halls will be bringing her Singer Le Mans CHU 944 to Pre-War Prescott again this year – as part of her ‘Where They Served’ airfield tour in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund and in memory of her night fighter father who owned and cherished an identical Le Mans during the war.  Last year, I think we gathered six Le Mans to support Elizabeth who is now about to commence her commemorative tour of all 59 airfields up and down the country that her father landed at during the war.  The actual Tiger Moth in which her father learned to fly will be displaying for us during the lunch break.  It was scheduled to join us last year, but the Biblical tempest kept it tightly in its hangar – we have booked sunny skies for this year!

We therefore we cordially invite all Singer owners to join Elizabeth at Prescott, and of course we will park you all together in the Paddock once more.  Elizabeth’s ‘Where They Served’ tour website may be found at www.wheretheyserved.com.

Today we received eight more entries and passed the 200 mark for booked climbs – so we’re half way to being fully booked.  If YOU have not booked yet, NOW is the time to do so if you want to blast up the hill!

1940 Hawker Hurricane Mk. 1 R4118 arrives at RAF Fairford for RIAT 2014

11th April 2015  Tremendous news!  We have secured Hawker Hurricane R4118 for our Battle of Britain 75th Anniversary Victory Party in the evening of Pre-War Prescott!   With 49 combat sorties, five enemy aircraft destroyed, and being itself shot down in the Battle of Britain, Hurricane R4118 is regarded as the most historic British aircraft to survive in flying condition from the Second World War.  Even more significantly, this aircraft is very rarely seen, having flown just fifty hours since its meticulous restoration was completed in 2007, and it is currently being offered for sale in the USA , so 2015 may very well be the last opportunity to see it in the UK.  The aircraft will be giving a full aerobatic display over the Clubhouse as the sun goes down.  Do NOT miss this tremendous party and very possibly one of the last chances to see this British icon in the skies over England!  Victory Party tickets may be pre-ordered here.  (If you have already entered Pre-War Prescott and wish to add Party tickets to your entry, please use the entry form again, and we will add your party tickets to your entry.)

See and hear R4118 here.  Pump up the volume!  Per Ardua Ad Astra!

MG’s galore (plus an imposter) with Christian Höptner’s splendid blown J2 to the fore at PWP 2013.
Christian will be joining us from Germany again this year, as he does every year!

9th April 2015  Pre-War Prescott is 100 days today!  This week we received no less than eight entries from Dutch MMM MG owners who will be ‘raiding’ Pre-War Prescott this year in force.  They will all be at the evening Battle of Britain Victory Party on Saturday evening and entering the Sunday rally to make a weekend of it.  With other entries coming in from Holland, Germany, Spain, New Zealand and the USA, our overseas visitors will certainly add an international flavor to the weekend’s proceedings!

A quick word about catering over the weekend.  We will be holding our informal Reception at the Shutters Inn, Gotherington (about two miles from Prescott hill) on Friday evening where meals will be available.  The Prescott Clubhouse will be open for breakfast from 9 a.m. on Saturday and will be open all day serving full English breakfasts and lot of other nice things such as coffee, cakes, lunch and afternoon teas.  The Clubhouse will also serve Continental breakfasts for our European guests and we can also cater for vegetarian or any other special dietary needs provided we are advised in advance. This will be in addition to the snack and drinks kiosk in the Paddock.  And then there is the sumptuous Battle of Britain BBQ at the Clubhouse in the evening, not to mention our traditional bacon butties and hot drinks on Sunday morning in the Paddock for the Sunday rallyists, followed by a pub lunch, then cream teas on Sunday afternoon and a farewell pub run and dinner on Sunday evening at the Pheasant at Toddington, so nobody will go hungry or thirsty over the weekend!
