Battle of Britain Victory Party

March 9, 2015

6276130_orig

We are delighted to announce that Paul Harvey is planning to display his pre-war Tiger Moth G-AFWI overhead on Saturday for us.  If you recall, he was scheduled to join us last year, but the deluge sunk that plan, so he’s going to try again this year, after hearing that we have booked MUCH better weather!

We will be holding our Battle of Britain Victory Party and BBQ at the Prescott Clubhouse on the hill to mark the 75th Anniversary this year of that heroic struggle, and Mike Dowley and his band will be entertaining us once again.  To that end we are encouraging (but NOT requiring) entrants on Saturday to come along in wartime period dress, or perhaps uniforms – to add to the atmosphere.  Jayne and I will be bringing our first granddaughter, Sophia Rose aged 3, over from Seattle with us.  She should be easy to spot as she already has her evacuee outfit complete with name label and gas mask box!

So, with just over three months until the Pre-War Prescott weekend, entries are arriving daily, among which are a wonderful variety of vintage band pre-war cars.  To date, we have just over 70 entries already including Alvis, Austin, Bentley, BSA, Ford, GN, Hillman, Lagonda, MG, Morris, Singer, Sunbeam, Triumph and Wolseley.  This year we are seeing another very strong MMM entry (13 so far) as well as a strong Alvis and Austin 7 entry.  A special invitation has been sent out to Bristol Austin 7 Club members to join us as they mark their 50th Anniversary.

We already have over 150 climbs booked for Saturday, and since the available climbs were virtually all taken before last year’s event, it would be prudent to get your advance entry in without delay in order to reserve your climbs.  Every entry receives one free climb, and you can pre-book up to four more with your entry.  Simply use the ‘Online Entry Form’ tab above where you can either enter and pay online, or you can download, complete and post your paper entry with your cheque.  Unlike last year, the online entry system seems to be working well, while Colin Lee has been receiving a steady flow of paper entries in the post.

Flat Caps and Berets

February 12, 2015

8th March 2015  Flat caps and berets the order of the day.  John Fletcher reefs his 1935 Riley 12/4 Sprite rep. round Ettore’s at Pre-War Prescott last year.  An air cadet gets an experience he will never forget, and the whole thing was recorded not only in this delightful image by Phil Jones but by the GoPro camera mounted on the bonnet, all adding up to the true spirit of Pre-War Prescott.

Entries are already mounting up with just over fifty already booked in for Saturday 18th July as well as a strong entry for the Sunday Navigation Rally and Scenic Tour – not to mention the Saturday evening Battle of Britain Victory Party and BBQ on the hill to mark the 75th Annivesary of that historic victory.  We have already booked Mike Dowley (of MG spares supplier Sports & Vinatge Motors) and his band to entertain us for the evening and much, much more is in the pipleline.

We’d like to extend a special welcome to the Alvis Owner Club and the BSA Front Wheel Drive Club who have both requested their own area in the Paddock this year for the first time.  We would also like to extend a very warm welcome the Dutch MG contingent who will also be joining us this year for the first time.   Any and all other pre-war one-make car clubs and registered would also be most welcome to gather at Prescott on Saturday – just let me know and I will make the necessary arrangements at NO charge to the club.

Keep checking back for further news and updates as the weekend draws near.

Taking Entries for Pre-War Prescott 2015

October 17, 2014

17th October 2014  Entries are now open for Pre-War Prescott 2015!

Welcome to Pre-War Prescott 2015!  But first, sincere thanks to all those who attended and supported Pre-War Prescott 2014 in July, making it the best Pre-War Prescott yet, despite the Biblical downpours which did nothing to dampen our spirits!

Last year, we opened the website and entries in December, but we have already received so many enquiries from individuals and clubs that we decided to get things going sooner this year!

Pre-War Prescott affords entrants a rare and exciting opportunity to enjoy this historic hill without any of the formality and fuss of competition.  No flame-proof overalls, catch tanks, helmets or racing licenses required.  Passengers, including children, may be carried, and saloons are equally welcome to join in the fun.

Pre-War Prescott 2015 will take place on Saturday 18th July and will be the fifth running of this relaxed and hugely popular event which is now most definitely coming of age.  Pre-War Prescott 2014 attracted around 180 vintage and pre-war cars, and we are expecting even more in 2015.  And of course, spectators are very welcome!  You may enter online, or download the entry form, complete it and post it with your payment – check out the Online Entry link above for both options.  Every advance entry receives one free climb ticket, and more tickets may be purchased in advance and this year your entry will also include a free commemorative Programme.  While climb tickets will possibly be available on the day, the hill was virtually fully booked before this year’s event, so we strongly recommend that you pre-book your climbs with your entry.

2015 also marks the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, and so we are planning an appropriately themed Battle of Britain Victory BBQ with live forties music in the evening at the Prescott Clubhouse on the hill.  A memorable evening is definitely in store!  More details will be posted here as plans develop, but for now, just remember to bring your silk scarf and goggles!

Pre-War Prescott has quickly become a significant international event, a key objective of which is to honour equally all those cars that survived World War Two.  Many of our pre-war cars were used during the war and contributed materially to our victory.  And many of us are now driving cars that were owned during the war by those who never returned, and whose sacrifice paid for the freedoms we enjoy today.  To repay just a small part of our debt, the RAF Charitable Trust has been nominated as the official Pre-War Prescott charity, and we plan to make another substantial donation to the Trust in 2015.

Stop by this website regularly over the coming weeks and months to follow the unfolding plans for what will undoubtedly be one of the best vintage and pre-war motoring events of 2015.
